Hampton University invites nominations and applications for the Chairperson of the Department of Architecture position.  The University is seeking a visionary leader with proven academic and administrative skills.
 
Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Tidewater Peninsula in Hampton, Virginia. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution.  The Department of Architecture is housed within the School of Engineering and Technology and has 165 students and 8 full-time faculty. The 5 ½-year degree program leads to the Master of Architecture first professional degree, and is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. 
 
The candidate must possess a terminal degree (M.Arch) in Architecture or a related field, professional registration as an architect and demonstrated commitment to excellence in design, teaching, research and scholarship. The successful candidate should have a record of teaching and scholarly or professional attainment in architecture, community design, sustainability, historic preservation or modeling and simulation within a university setting.  The candidate must also possess experience to lead the growth and development of a strong graduate architecture program within Hampton University as well as take the lead in fundraising initiatives.
 
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.  Applicants should submit a letter outlining the candidate’s commitment to teaching, professional and scholarly work as well as administrative goals and aspirations, a curriculum vitae, and the names of three references with postal and email addresses and telephone numbers.  Portfolios and examples of work may be requested by the Search Committee at a later date.  Anticipated appointment date is April 2008.
