ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT
CAMPUS PLANNING, SPACE, AND REAL ESTATE
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is seeking applications for the Assistant Vice President for the newly established Office of Campus Planning, Space, and Real Estate. This position provides a unique opportunity for an accomplished and strategic individual to shape the new organization and its relationships with university partners.
Reporting to the Vice President for Administrative Services, the Assistant Vice President has a leadership role in matters of campus aesthetics and the preservation of Virginia Tech’s architectural heritage. This is a highly visible role that interacts with top-level administration of the university in strategic planning, long range physical planning and development, and development of the capital outlay program for the future benefit of the university. The AVP is responsible for developing and implementing the Campus Master Plan, coordinating university efforts to assure that facility and space needs are being met, and ensuring that the direction of capital project program planning is integrated with long range physical planning. The AVP collaborates with university partners to identify strategic property acquisitions to advance the university’s mission and future growth needs.
The Office of Campus Planning, Space, and Real Estate provides guidance through the professional disciplines and core competencies of architectural design, campus planning, land planning/landscape architecture, space programming and analysis, GIS, integrated sustainable planning, and real estate management.
The successful candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of all phases of master planning, long-range development planning, and space planning; significant architectural design and sustainable design experience; strong collaborative leadership style; strategic and visionary thinker; significant related management experience; and current registration or demonstrated ability to become registered as an architect in Virginia within twelve months. The position requires a Professional Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture degree or degree in a closely related field. In the absence of a Master’s degree, a combination of education and significant experience in a related discipline that equates to an advanced degree is required.

The City of Alexandria is seeking an Urban Planner II for the Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities. This position functions in an interdisciplinary environment and is responsible for coordinating park and open space programming, and planning and designing capital projects, as well as research, analysis, presentation or interpretation of concepts and data. The position performs duties and tasks over a range of scales pertaining to long range planning, urban design, park and open space master planning and design implementation.

Director of Project & Program Management
Department of Architectural and Engineering Services (AES)
Reporting to the Executive Director of Architectural and Engineering Services (AES), the Director of Project & Program Management is accountable for performing the managerial and supervisory duties related to all project and program management in support of the 21st Century UCONN program and all construction related projects undertaken by the Department of Architectural and Engineering Services. The Director will manage the construction, commissioning and close out of the University capital improvement, deferred maintenance and building and fire code related programs. The Director is also responsible for all aspects of staffing including staff appointments, terminations, promotions, evaluations and training of direct reports.
Minimum Qualifications: The ideal candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Architecture or Engineering or related fields such as Architectural Engineering, Construction Management or Business, and ten (10) years experience in the design and construction leadership of large building projects (single projects over $50,000,000 or programs exceeding $100,000,000) involving any combination of the following: architectural or engineering design or review; construction supervision; project estimation or project management. Candidates must have a Professional License in Architecture or Engineering; considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of building design and the design aspects of building modification and construction; considerable knowledge of project management; knowledge of building materials; and considerable knowledge of building and fire codes and code enforcement. Candidates should also have knowledge of contractual documentation; considerable knowledge of and experience in construction dispute resolution and resolution methodologies; exceptional oral and written communication skills; the ability to read and interpret construction contracts, plans and specifications; construction leadership experience in either public or private sectors; knowledge of Microsoft office suite and associated programs; knowledge and ability to interpret project schedules; and demonstrated supervisory experience and ability to lead and manage staff.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of project management and project financials and scheduling; experience in working in higher education or in a public non-profit administration; and experience in developing cash flow projects for individual construction projects and programs
Salary will be commensurate with background and experience.
